This is a call to police commanders, Sylvester Kalaut and Ben Turi to be a play a facilitating role to our request to protest.
A hardline approach will not… I say again: WILL NOT protect this democracy or public safety. In fact it will exacerbate the tensions.
LET THE PEOPLE EXPRESS THEIR ANGER AND FRUSTRATIONS!
IF YOU CONTINUE TO STOP THE PROTESTS, YOU WILL ADD TO A RECIPE FOR VIOLENT REVOLT SOME MONTHS INTO THE FUTURE.
There are Papua New Guineans who are silent for now. But you should not underestimate their silence. They will join protests in future and you will not be able to contain them with mere threats or weapons.
We call on you – Sylvester Kalaut and Ben Turi – who occupy the high office in the constabulary to be a heroes of democracy. Facilitate the voice of the people.
We call on you – Sylvester Kalaut and Ben Turi – not to add to the perception that Papua New Guinea has become a dictatorship, a police state where our freedoms of speech and expression are stuffed out by the butt of an M16.
Do not use your guns to stop our freedom of expression. Do not use your uniforms to intimidate. Do not use your constitutional authority to suppress our conditional right.
We seek your support to allow us to express our anger.
LET US MARCH TO PARLIAMENT WITH YOUR ESCORT!
LET US PRESENT OUR PEITION TO THE PRIME MINISTER OUTSIDE OF PARLIAMENT UNDER YOUR WATCH!
This is not a complicated request. I implore you to be agents of this peaceful democracy. Do not become agents of a dictatorship. Do not become agents of a corrupt regime hell-bent on suppressing the people’s right.
The people are greater that the powers that exist. We submit to the powers because we choose to. We urge you to recognize that choice and allow us to protest peacefully!
SYLVESTER KALAUT & BEN TURI, WE SEEK YOUR SUPPORT TO PLAY A FACILITATIVE ROLE IN THIS DEMOCRATIC PROCESS!
