DWU SRC PRESIDENT, JACKSON MULUPE, IS AN EMBARASSMENT!

As a citizen, I feel the need to question the intellectual capacity of Jackson Mulupe, the President of the Student Representative Council (SRC) of Divine Word University (DWU). I understand that sarcasm is beyond you so I will TRY to keep simple simple and straight so you understand.

YOUR LACK OF UNDERSTANDING IS ASTOUNDING
The statement released on the National Newspaper on Monday 16th May 2016, reflects your ignorance (you do understand the meaning of this word, don’t you?) on national issues. Its is clear you do not fully understand what you said. Instead you parroted what was stated at your forum in the hope of sounding intelligent.

Let me ask you this: HOW ARE YOU RESPECTING THE LAW AND THE CONSTITUTION BY NOT SPEAKING OUT TO DEFEND THE LAW AND THE CONSTITUTION?

YOUR SO CALLED “NEUTRAL STANCE” IS COWARDICE OF THE HIGHEST ORDER! AND MUST BE COMMENDED!

What about releasing a statement that simply says:

  1. “We support the call by UPNG, UNITECH, UNRE & UOG to call on the Prime Minister to respect the rule of law. Because we believe the constitution is supreme. We also call for the protection of the integrity of the Prime Minister’s office.

  2. “We call for the removal of the vetting process imposed by the Commissioner of Police as it creates two sets of laws – one for the rich and powerful and the other for ordinary folk.”

  3. However, due to our university policies, we are unable to protest in the manner demonstrated by our sister universities. We will protest through the expression of our voices and opinions through representation from our Student Representative Council. Etc…

The SRC statement has dragged the University into disrepute.

It tells us that DWU is populated by students who lack the skills to critically analyze national issues. It tells us that that we are unable to clearly articulate a position independently and diplomatically present it in the face of external pressure.

This crop of young students are an embarrassment to the country, and embarrassment to the University and to the future of Papua New Guinea.

If these are the kind of people who will lead this country into the future, then we are lost as a nation!

  1. @Thinking_kanaka, what gives you the right downgrade another with such?? what have you done to support the move that UPNG and the others are taking on and putting their education on the line. DWU is not like the other institutions where democracy is fully exercised! it is mission run and it has rules that govern it.

so before you go on criticizing everyone, think beyond your box and leave out your so-called kanaka thinking for other small issues.

And for the SRC pres, i commend for taking the stance for the whole student body in your support in this political issue that has gone beyond control. Its now to the law to take its course and let justice prevail.

  2. As per judging by the intent of the statement by SRC prez, it’s inappropriate. The current state of political & economic crisis is such crucial, saking the fabrics of our society. Yet DWU students can switch to neutral mode & expect sister universities to stand up as intellectual community to protest and stand their grounds for a profound national interest. Does sound too well here.

    Stop judging!
If you are a good citizen, you should be abiding with the law.
DWU as an intellectual community, they have shown their deepest concern about the national issues accordingly and in a rightful manner which protects the individual’s integrity as well as the institution.
I hope their written petition as been given to the PMs team as per se.
DWU students are not cowards, they are people or persons of their own rights and merits that qualify to the institution and backed by their caring parents and supporters.
As an ex DWU, i was taught ethics and different reasoning methods. We look at the bigger picture and analyse pros and cons before we take actions. We simply care for our simple”dont care” attitude” as our actions can be someone else sufferings. We do not want our actions to create bad impacts in the society!
We are summoned to think before taking actions in a rightful ethical manner. Do not downsized our integrity!

  4. Wow Kanaka Thinking!
You don’t expect everyone else to think like you do you?
DWU is a mission run institution and so they have to be neutral when it comes to politics and national issues. You cannot force people to think with you in the same box. President Mulupe has done the right thing by taking a neutral stand on that matter.

    1. I don’t expect “everyone else” to think like me. You are right! But I do expect the our generation to be critical of issues that will affect their future and make decisions that are appropriate under the under circumstances. To take a neutral position is not only cowardice but injustice in itself. And as a mission run school that claims to follow the teachings of the great man, i expect you to stand up to the challenge and correct the system. If you are going to hide your impotence and veil it with political correctness, then just don’t become SRC president!
